Interesting sights to see around Umi Hotel
Umi Hotel is located on the Southern coast of Iceland and is surrounded by stunning landscape. There are many things to see and do in Iceland and we have choosen a few interesting sights that are located not too far from hotel.
The black sand beach is a popular sight many travelers want to see when visiting Iceland. On the Southern coast the black sand beach streatches along the coastline. From the hotel you can walk on a private road only accessible for guests all the way to the black-sand coast. It is magical to see the sunrise and sunset from the beach and if in luck the northern lights swirling around. Just be careful around the shore lines because the Atlantic ocean waves are powerful.
Skógafoss waterfall is about 10 km the hotel. This waterfall is 60 meters high and visitors can view the waterfall from below or walk up multiple stairs (about 200 steps) to get an amazing view from top. Visitors can get quite up close with the waterfall but there is no way of walking behind Skógafoss as travelers can do when visiting Seljalandsfoss. There is an old myth about the waterfall…. a viking settler named Þrasi, is believed to have buried his chest of gold under the waterfall.
Kvernufoss waterfall is often overlooked for its cousin… the previously mentioned waterfall Skógafoss. The waterfall is located on the east side of Skógafoss and you walk past the Skógar museum. The waterfall is about 30 meter high and located in a small canyon. From the museum you walk a pathway for about 15-20 minutes and be ready to be blown away by how magical the area is.
Please note! There is no entry fee to visit the waterfalls but you must pay 500 ISK parking fee in the Skógar Museum.
