UMI Hotel is on Iceland's South Coast, at the foot of Eyjafjallajökull, near Hvolsvöllur. It is 150 km from Reykjavík, about two hours by car on Route 1.
Is there a beach near the hotel?+
Yes. A path leads from the hotel to our private black sand beach, about 15 minutes on foot.
Does UMI have a restaurant?+
Yes. The restaurant and bar serve dishes made with local Icelandic ingredients, with views over the ocean. Breakfast is included in every stay.
What wellness facilities are there?+
Saunas, a private sauna you can book by the hour, 30- or 60-minute massages and a yoga room open 24/7.
Can I see the Northern Lights from UMI?+
Yes, from about September to April on clear, dark nights. The hotel is far from town lights, and reception can wake you when the lights appear.
What is there to do nearby?+
Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss, Sólheimajökull and the black sand beaches near Vík are all within an hour's drive. Our tour desk books glacier hikes, horse riding and other tours.

Check-in is from 16:00 and check-out is by 11:00.

UMI has 28 rooms, all with mountain or ocean views. 17 new rooms open on 23 December 2026, bringing the hotel to 45.
