About us
Umi hotel is located by one of the most beautiful mountain range in the country. The hotel is only about 150 km away from Reykjavik and 2 km of the Ring road (Road NR. 1). Our location offers a strong connection to nature that allows our guests to experience the peace and quiet of the Icelandic countryside.
The hotel offers a first class restaurant with a unique view of the Westman Islands and the southern coastline, as well as a lounge bar with a view of the famous subglacial volcano Eyjafjallajökull and the beautiful mountain terrain surrounding it. Next to our hotel the river Svaðbælisá peacefully flows by. The starlit skies and northern lights certainly won’t let anyone down over the winter months.
The Hotel is non-smoking and open all year round

The story begins…
Umi Hotel was built and run for the first six years by the family of Sigurður Sólonsson and Arnfríður Hjaltadóttir.
In the autumn of 2015, they began designing and building Umi Hotel after realizing they wanted others to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the surrounding area.
The grand opening took place in August 2017.
Continuing the vision…
Acquired by Alfa Framtak in mid-December 2023, the hotel continues the vision of the former owners by providing the best customer service in a spectacular setting.
The Design
The design aimed to create a welcoming and calming environment for guests to relax in after a busy day of exploring. The materials and color palette of the hotel are inspired by the surrounding nature, the beautiful colors of Icelandic autumn, and the shapes and textures of Icelandic landscapes.
The hotel’s interior and lighting were designed by Sandra Dís Sigurðardóttir, daughter of the former owners.
